Third Ward Legacy Tour: Celebrating Our History Together

The 3rd Ward Legacy Tour is a fresh, interactive reimagining of the historic African American Walking Tour. Designed to engage and inspire, this experience invites our community to explore the rich Black history of the 3rd Ward — in the very places where these powerful stories unfolded.

The Eastown Community Association is partnering with the Grand Rapids African American Museum & Archives (GRAAMA) to support their mission, which is to highlight the history, culture, and achievements of local African Americans, fostering a deeper connection between past and present.

By walking the streets of the 3rd Ward, participants don’t just learn history — they step directly into it.

Share Your Story!

We believe the 3rd Ward’s legacy is best told through the voices of its people. If you or your family have a story connected to the 3rd Ward, we invite you to drop your contact information and story in the collection box located in the ECA office during office hours. The ECA office is located at 415 Ethel Avenue SE. Office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 8 am to 12 pm and Fridays from 8-10 am.

Once submitted, a member of the GRAAMA team will reach out to schedule an interview so we can preserve and share your history as part of the tour.

Thank you for helping us honor and share the legacy of the 3rd Ward. Together, we keep our history alive.
