The Eastown Community Association is dedicated to building a stronger neighborhood through education and participation.  The following committees are open to any interested Eastown residents...

Streetscape Committee

This committee focuses on keeping Eastown a clean and attractive place to live and work.  One major focus of this committee is to establish recycling for the business district.  The chair is Jeff Avink.

Friends of Wilcox Park

This committee is dedicated to taking care of Wilcox Park.  They have done several successful clean-ups this year which have left the Park looking lovely.  They were also instrumental in re-opening the wading pool.  The chair is Cindy Lannig-Burch.

Friends of Sigsbee Park

This committee desires to revitalize Sigsbee Park located at the Southeast Academic Center and Living Stones Academy. We wish to support the Green Grand Rapids plan for the City emphasizing the need for accessible and well-maintained parks. The committee believes that by making some improvements like adding picnic tables and benches, welcoming park signage, and better lighting the results will foster investment of the residents in their neighbors and the broader community of Eastown. The chair is Jo VanderPloeg.

Housing Committee

The Housing Committee works with the City of Grand Rapids, Calvin College, the Eastown Community Organizer and at times, the GR Police on matters of absentee landlords; vacant properties; housing code violations; rowdy college students, and more.  This committee also creates welcome packets for new neighbors and information packets for block captains.  The chair is Ryan Ogle.

Special Events Committee

This committee is the driving force behind such popular Eastown events as Bizarre Bazaar and the Eastown StreetFair.  Learn how to obtain special events permits from the City, solicit bands to perform, attract volunteers and much more.  The chair is Craig Benjamin.

ACCESS Committee

The ACCESS Committee creates the bi-monthly Eastown newsletter that goes out to approximately
2,500 households.  Some members write articles, others work on lay-out, and still others solicit businesses for advertisements and send the final copy to the printers.  The chair is Heather Salter..

If you are interested in joining any of these committees, please contact Amber Kilpatrick at 451-3025.
