11 Applicants for City Commissioner Seat

In efforts to elect the next City Commissioner for the Second Ward, which services Eastown, there will be a City Commission Town Hall Meeting on February 1 at 7:00pm. This meeting will be held at the Grand Rapids Public School University on 1400 Fuller Avenue.
City Clerk Darlene O’Neal has released the names of the 11 applicants who qualify for the forthcoming Second Ward City Commissioner appointment. First interviews will be held in the Commission Chambers on January 26th from 1-5:00pm and on January 27th from 8-11:30am. The public is welcome to sit in on any of these meetings.
The City Commission is expected to conduct a series of initial interviews beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 26th from 11am-6pm in the City Hall Ninth Floor City Commission Chambers. Want to get to know the candidates? Click here.
The meeting will be televised live on the Grand Rapids Information Network, Channel 26.
Based on the results of those interviews, the top three ranked candidates (announced on Jan. 27) will participate in a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Feb. 1 at the GRPS University, 1400 Fuller Ave NE at 7pm. Residents can speak about the remaining top candidates for the office at a 7pm public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Following the public hearing, the City Commission will conduct second interviews with the top candidates at its Tuesday, Feb. 16 City Commission special meeting.
The entire seven-week process wraps up on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when the City Commssion will debate and take a formal vote to appoint a Commissioner for the Second Ward at the 7pm evening Commission meeting. The new Second Ward Commissioner will be sworn in and take his or her seat at the same meeting.
